GDxTaeyang : “Good Boy”

14 years after they first met as trainees, the besties are finally an official unit!

Get it on itunes!

I had no idea what to expect but I think they really want to have fun with this more than anything. I’m really looking forward to this being done live especially since their individual energy and performance styles means that it’s going to be a party!  Looking forward to them really letting loose!

  1. The idea of a GDYB unit is great and beautiful but this song was a mess. Probably will be a fun stage performance but this song and MV is such a caricature. Maybe it was not meant to be taken seriously.

However I can tolerate this song (though hardly) which is not a testament of the song, but only my love for YB’s voice, particularly the bridge at the end.

  2. Lyrics Translation: http://popgasa.com/2014/11/20/g-dragon-taeyang-good-boy/

Put your hands in the air
    How y’all feeling out there
    We gon’ party over here
Everyone together sing it let me hear you say
La la la la la la la la La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la La la la la la la la la la

I am a good boy I am a good good I am a good boy

Wherever I go, they’re lining up, when girls see me, their eyes light on fire
During the day, I’m a lil hamster but at night when I’m making love, a gangster
A warm and affectionate look (natural skinship) you’ll be twitching
Even if you don’t tell me, I know what you want, I can tell

Eh eh eh, I’m different from how I look
I don’t play play play, I won’t play with you
People say to watch out for guys like me
To not trust guys like me too much, that we’re typical
What you know about me, do you know me?

I am a good boy I am a good good I am a good boy

Everyday fresh clothes and I’m unexpectedly really shy
It’s just my slight eye smile freezes everyone around me
But I don’t really care and I don’t need that
(I just need you, lean on me)
If this is a game, yes I’m a player and you could be my coach (love affair)

Eh eh eh, I’m different from how I look
I don’t play play play, I won’t play with you
People say to watch out for guys like me
To not trust guys like me too much, that we’re typical
What you know about me, do you know me?

I am a good boy I am a good good I am a good boy

Hey dance with me all night, dream a fairy-tale-like dream
Hey I’m a prince on a white horse, you’re a fair lady who has lost her slipper
Baby where u at, hold my hand cuz it’s dangerous
Where u at, because I’ll take you to the sky

Put your hands in the air
    How y’all feeling out there
    We gon’ party over here
Everyone together sing it let me hear you say
La la la la la la la la La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la La la la la la la la la la
I am a good boy I am a good good I am a good boy

  3. This is dope.Love it ,watch so many time ,jamming to it .The dance is awesome.Wow Jiyong can dance and should do more.Youngbae can rap haters and he sound great has usually.

  4. Love it for the GDYB since the two initially were planned to debut as a hiphop duo but then came BIGBANG. The song though, not really my cup of tea, it’ll take some time to grow on me I think – it’s usually how I am with EDM and dance tracks these days.

Will see if the live performances will change my mind, they usually do.

Having said that, the two look great and YB’s part at the bridge is really what I was expecting to hear more of but whatever, other than me being selfish I’m just happy that the two got to do this project!🙂

  5. i feel strange, weird and dissapointed with all of the comments which is don’t like this kind of song…

    came on

seriously, if you being VIP since 2006… you’ll already knew that BIGBANG loves to change MUSIC STYLE and GENRE on their album or single…

the main problem you don’t like this kind of song are:

    1. You are New YG stans (2012-Present) and New BIGBANG stans (2012-Present) not Old BIGBANG fans (2006-2008, 2009-2011)

    2. Yes… there was some of old BIGBANG fans miss that old Hip Hop RnB 2006 era… but, seriously… BIGBANG is more than Hip Hop and RnB

    3. some of GD&TOP fans which is don’t like GDYB duet

    4. Trolls

    5. Antis

i’m prefer being VIP than YG stans

    1. Hi, I don’t know if your comment was directed towards me or just the fandom in general, but I wanted to give my two cents. I agree that most of the fandom (well, at least based on what I see from Good Boy’s Youtube comments) hasn’t taken the song too well. But it’s Youtube, I don’t think anything worthy pops out on there, maybe once in a blue moon?

I can understand why you’re saddened/frustrated/disappointed though, because it’s BIGBANG (well two of them) releasing a song since ALIVE and people should actually be happy about it or enjoy it. I went through the same phase when I found out about BIG BANG.

However, I think it’s OK – if not quite important – especially for a fandom as rabid as that in KPOP, to be critical of what and who you’re listening to. Being critical isn’t the same as being an anti, hating, or leaving nasty comments, or trolling; and certainly not whining (ie fans that were wanting GD&TOP instead of GDYB). I mean questioning the integrity of the music, management, the idols themselves and how it affects them, and so forth.

I don’t think I have to be obligated to like or jam to every song that BIG BANG puts out simply because I’m a VIP, YG stan, or what have you, I think that’s taking what it means to be a fan to an extreme. That doesn’t make me any less of a fan regardless of which year I found out or started to like them. I’m still a fan, but placing a critical distance between myself and these intense feelings I’m supposed to have for these idols that I feel can blind me or make me ignorant/whiny/superior to others. For me personally, I’m happy they even released anything. They could have continued working on that supposed album that’ll drop next year (I dunno, I don’t take YG’s word on schedules anymore), but they decided to drop this subunit, GDYB no less! So I’m a happy fan.

I love YB’s music, and I do enjoy BIG BANG’s releases and the fact that they don’t stick to one particular genre and experiment, maybe there are some songs I didn’t like it on the first listen but most if not all grow on me as I keep playing them, BECAUSE I know (via reading interviews and what not) that they’re experimenting and growing as an artist; expanding their craft.

So while it’ll take some time for ME to get used to music they release that may not really be my cup of tea, I respect that THEY are exploring and experimenting with new things in order to improve and be better at their job and not diss for the sake of it, or complain about it because they’re their own person. We have no right to feel or want the idols to do what we want them to do, that’s the production and management’s job. We as fans are just simply taking and consuming – simply sites of profit and income in the idol business, we don’t really have much say in what we get from our idols.

Maybe that still comes off as being a troll or anti for you. If that’s the case, then I guess we can agree to disagree and part ways. Peace🙂

*Sorry, gosh, this turned out to be a mini-essay. This turned out way longer than I thought, and I probably went way off tangent, gah. ><

      1. Love your comment! (I’ve missed you Chanting!) Just wanted to add another perspective too: its actually good too when fans have strong reactions from different ends on new songs – an artist needs to try different things to keep growing and that means not everyone is going to like it! It’s impossible to please everyone, and trying to do so by staying “safe” and sticking to a comfort zone is not going to make artists or their fandom happy in the long run. Not all experiments are going to turn out the way the artist expects, but then again, we can always look forward to the next one. (If only YG’s “next time” came a little bit quicker….)

Plus, as with all things YB, you have to remember that he has many different kinds of fans (the R&B solo fans, his BB fans etc.) When you add GD to the mix (whose fans have very different tastes), you are going to have a lot of different expectations and not everyone is going to get what they expect or even want, lol.

In light of the fact that this particular song was made as a collaboration effort specifically with Youtube for their Music event, I’m guessing that the intended market was more international as opposed to the normal kpop crowd. (That’s why they had to go all the way to LA to film and with an international crew.) That probably influenced a lot of decisions as to music style, video and fashion style etc. in keeping with trends that are more digestible for a non-kpop audience, but still keeping some more familiar elements for their usual fans. And I am sure that having Kia as a corproate sponsor had some impact as well (er… having to work “hamster” into the lyrics lol) So there are a lot of considerations that perhaps, people don’t appreciate.

At the end of the day though, this was just supposed to be a fun song and not an artistic monument haha. I’m really looking forward to the live!

        1. I’ve missed ATY but I do lurk around when there’s new posts (subscribing is a good thing ;D), just no time for commenting >A<"

Good point on the different types of fans YB, GD, and BB in general have, probably explains all the different reactions I wouldn't get from YB fans.

I didn't know they had Kia as a sponsor (the car?) o.o

If this is a sub-unit solely to be in time for the YMAs then it makes sense but I hope this isn't a one-off thing, I want me some more GDYB ! Brings back those good old videos of GD and "Taekwon" heheheh X)

It is a fun song though, I think it's just the MV distracts me from it simply a very dance-able track (it's the outfits and the Ringa Linga-esque, glow in the dark lights I think). Plus I often catch myself saying "I am a good boy (girl???)" LOL
