Taeyang tops survey of dance professionals as Best Individual Male Performer

Taeyang was chosen as the best individual member of a male group for performance in a survey of 27 professional choreographers and dancers with 7 of the 27 votes.  Performance was defined as the ability to “visually deliver the music.”

Choreographer Lee Woo Won stated, “Taeyang dances knowing the dance. He puts in emotion when he dances.” Dancer Kim Tae Gyu also picked Taeyang and explained, “His delicacy on stage and the coordination with the dancers, and a ‘feel’ that can’t be imitated is the biggest reason.”

Big Bang was likewise chosen as the top male group for performances with 8 of the 27 votes.  Dancer Jin Jung Woon stated, “Most idol groups comeback with predictable dances, music, and outfits, but there are a few who people anticipate the most and give them their full attention. One of those groups is Big Bang.”

Certainly not the first time Taeyang has been singled out by dance professionals for his expressive style and feel for the music.  (See here and here.) I’m already looking forward to whatever new moves and performance concepts he has planned for his next promos. He seems to go through phases for particular dance moves (or just tends to use his current favorites a lot) so whatever new music he has planned is bound to have some new moves as well. (Though just singing is good too if that ever becomes part of the plan.)

  1. as expected YB topped the survey again.

“Taeyang dances knowing the dance. He puts in emotion when he dances.”

“His delicacy on stage and the coordination with the dancers, and a ‘feel’ that can’t be imitated is the biggest reason.”

choreographer Lee Woo Won and Kim Tae Gyu summarizes what i wanted to say.

  2. YB is one of the few idols that always tops this list, no matter who makes it. Yet, if you notice, it’s not his technical skill that draws the critics’ praise. No one ranks YB as #1 because he has the better moves or shows a wide variety of dance styles. Professionals always rank YB #1 due to his “feel” on stage. It’s the ability to evoke emotion and connect with the music through his dancing that makes YB inimitable.
